Supporting Your Research

The Holckner Family CF Impact Grant

Please note: The 2025 Cure4CF grant round is now closed. We thank all applicants for their interest and look forward to announcing successful projects later this year.

Cure4 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation proudly funds outstanding research that aims to accelerate the delivery of life-extending and life-transforming solutions for people living with cystic fibrosis. We are committed to supporting projects that lead to meaningful clinical outcomes.

From the outset, we prioritise innovative, high-impact research with a clear pathway to deliver tangible benefits for the cystic fibrosis community. We seek researchers who are not only driven by discovery but also dedicated to translating their findings into real-world impact.

To guide our funding decisions, Cure4CF receives independent advice from a dedicated Independent Research Advisory Committee. This expert panel plays a vital role in helping us identify and assess high-quality, impactful research. These advisory services are generously provided to Cure4CF at no cost.

Our sole mission is to fund innovative research that builds on existing knowledge and demonstrates a clear pathway and commitment to translational impact — research that can ultimately transform lives.

While the current round is closed, we encourage researchers to prepare for future funding opportunities and to reach out to us to discuss other research partnership opportunities with Cure4CF.

MRFF Support

Researchers can partner with Cure4CF to strengthen their MRFF applications by leveraging both in-kind and, where appropriate, cash support aligned with Cure4CF’s mission to accelerate life-extending and life-transforming solutions for people with cystic fibrosis. Eligible applicants—Australian-based researchers with projects that meet Cure4CF’s research priorities and demonstrate meaningful consumer involvement—can request support by submitting a Partnership Request Form. Cure4CF may provide in-kind contributions such as access to staff expertise, equipment, and facilities, or a mix of in-kind and cash contributions covering direct research costs, staff salaries, travel, and equipment. Proposals are assessed by Cure4CF’s Research and Commercialisation Committee on scientific excellence, impact, translational potential, and consumer engagement, with successful applicants receiving a Letter of Support to strengthen their national funding submission. In return, grantees are expected to meet reporting obligations, ensure responsible research conduct, and collaborate with Cure4CF on translation and engagement activities, ensuring the funded research delivers maximum public benefit and advances the path toward a cure for cystic fibrosis.

NHMRC Second Chance Funding

Cure4CF have entered a partnership with the NHMRC in two of their funding schemes.  This partnership will allow researchers to indicate at the time of submission to the round if they would like to be considered for near miss funding from Cure4CF.

In 2026 we will provide opportunities for near miss funding in both the Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Scheme as well as the Ideas Grant Scheme.  For both schemes the process to apply and guidelines remain that as outlined on the relevant NHMRC web pages (ADD LINKS).  When you submit your grant, you may select Cure4CF to indicate that you would like to be considered for near miss funding.

Cure4CF will receive the list of applications which are deemed eligible for funding but did not receive funding from the NHMRC.  Cure4CF will then review the applications and connect with the research teams to discuss how we can work together to take the next steps needed in the research proposal.
